Matt Baker MBE is a multi talented broadcaster whose career encompasses award winning shows on mainstream BBC TV, Channel 4, More4, Magic FM, Classic FM and BBC Radio 2; a consummate professional Matt is tailor made for the corporate market.
Seven and a half years on Blue Peter established Matt Baker as one of the best loved, nicest and most versatile presenters in the show's history, winning him 2 BAFTA awards for Best Children's presenter and a Royal Television Society award. Matt is a well known face across British television as the former co-host of The One Show and ongoing presenter of BBC One's top rating & award-winning Sunday night Countryfile series.
In July 2017 Matt co-hosted the BAFTA-nominated Wild Alaska Live, a major three-part live television event for BBC One produced by BBC Studios' Natural History Unit and the BBC Specialist Factual Department. The series, from the makers of 2015's BAFTA award-winning Big Blue Live (which Matt previously presented with Steve Backshall and Liz Bonnin), covered one of the greatest wildlife spectacles from one of the remotest corners of Earth.
In May 2018 Matt co-presented Royal Wedding Watch; a five-part nightly series of special programmes leading up to the live broadcast of the royal wedding, for US TV network PBS.
Throughout 2019 Matt presented several radio programmes for both Magic FM and Classic FM. In December 2019 Matt made his pantomime debut at the iconic London Palladium, starring in Goldilocks And The Three Bears.
In spring 2021 a four-part documentary series, Matt Baker: Our Farm In The Dales aired on More4, following Matt as he headed back to the Durham hills to rescue his family's sheep farm after his mum suffered a serious injury. The series broke all More4 records becoming the top-rating show for the channel and the series was later repeated on Channel 4 in a prime-time Saturday evening slot.
Spring 2022 brought a new four-part show to More4. Matt Baker: Travels With Mum and Dad, seeing Matt accompanied by his mum Janice and dad Mike, for an adventure across the North East in their old refurbished caravan. Travels With Mum And Dad became the fifth biggest commission in More4 history, warmly displaying the wonders of the UK whilst representing voices from across the nations and regions.
Having explored the UK's countryside, Matt crossed the Atlantic for a brand new series exploring rural USA. Matt Baker's Travels in the Country: USA premiered on More4 in April 2023, again to rave reviews.
From Spring 2024 Matt, presents a major new eight part competitive farming series for Channel 4. Our Dream Farm with Matt Baker follows the process of finding a brand new tenant for a beautiful National Trust farm in the North East.
He is also an ongoing key part of the BBC Sport Gymnastics presentation team
He is also the former president of the National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs.
Matt's exceptional physical prowess has allowed him to complete an impressive number of television challenges: he trained as a stunt man in Florida; spent a gruelling week with the Royal Marine Commandos, successfully passing their recruits' course, and later completed the Para's P Company selection tests. He also made the final of BBC Sport Relief's charity show jumping series Only Fools on Horses.
Despite leaving The One Show in March 2020, Matt continues to take part in the Rickshaw Challenge – now twelve years in a row. Under Matt's watch the Rickshaw ride has raised in excess of a staggering £45 million for BBC Children In Need and its good causes. 2021 saw an updated relay-style format, named The Great Rickshaw Relay Challenge, with daily updates on Morning Live and BBC Radio 5 Live, plus a 60-minute documentary special on BBC One highlighting the history of the challenge. The 2022 Rickshaw Relay was also festured daily on BBC Breakfast.
Matt was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List 2022 for charitable and voluntary services to fundraising; most notably as a Trustee of BBC Children In Need and his now 12 consecutive years of Rickshaw Challenge rides.
Matt studied for a BA (Hons) Acting at Queen Margaret's in Edinburgh, but after only eighteen months into the course he was snapped up as the 28th Blue Peter presenter — the rest is history!
